The history of this Breitling Superocean Chronograph II
The Superocean collection was launched in 1957. Breitling, then renowned for its aviation instruments such as the Navitimer, decided to design watches for professional divers and military personnel. This Breitling Superocean Chronograph II, reference A1334102/BA81, follows in this technical tradition. Combining a chronograph function with water resistance to 500 metres presents a structural challenge, as the holes for the pushers create pressure points in the case. To overcome this technical constraint, the manufacturer has developed substantial locking collars. These lock the mechanism in place underwater to prevent any accidental operation.
Case, calibre and strap of this Superocean Chronograph II
The stainless steel case measures 44 mm in diameter. Its finishes alternate between a straight-brushed finish on the upper surfaces and a polished finish on the sides. The unidirectional rotating bezel features a textured matt black insert, topped with embossed metallic numerals. The Abyss Black dial reveals dark shades beneath the domed sapphire crystal, which is fitted with a double-sided anti-reflective coating. It features three recessed sub-dials and a date window at 3 o’clock. The applied hour markers and sword-shaped hands are coated with luminescent material. The Breitling Calibre 13 self-winding mechanical movement powers the watch. It comprises 25 jewels, beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 42 hours. This chronograph is COSC-certified. The Professional II steel bracelet, featuring three rows of slanted links, fastens with a folding clasp.
