The history of this Breitling Navitimer
In 1952, the House of Breitling unveiled an instrument destined to revolutionise air navigation. Originally designed for the AOPA, the powerful American association of aircraft owners and pilots, the watch incorporated a circular logarithmic slide rule directly on its dial. This innovation enabled aviators to perform crucial mathematical calculations in flight, such as fuel consumption or climb speed, without any electronic equipment. Reference D2332212 perpetuates this prestigious heritage with a noble execution combining the robustness of steel with the preciousness of gold. The evolution of this legendary chronograph demonstrates the Manufacture's ability to sublimate a functional survival tool into a veritable icon of technical watchmaking.
Case, calibre and strap of this Navitimer
The architecture of this timepiece is based around a 41.8 mm case machined from stainless steel and topped by a notched bidirectional rotating bezel in 18k yellow gold. Beneath the domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal is a sunray blue dial contrasted by 3 silvered sub-counters with an azure finish. Polished applied Arabic numerals mark the hours and the central second hand features the famous gold counterweight with the anchor and winged logo. The self-winding mechanical movement, designated Calibre 23 by the Manufacture, features 25 jewels and beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. This chronometer-certified chronograph has a 42-hour power reserve and a date window discreetly located between 4 and 5 o'clock. The whole is secured by the famous Navitimer 7-row articulated bracelet, alternating polished steel and yellow gold, secured by a folding clasp. Water resistance is guaranteed to 30 metres.
Why this Breitling watch
The appeal of this pre-owned chronograph lies in its bold chromatic configuration. The combination of solid gold, polished steel and a deep blue dial creates a perfect balance between aeronautical technicality and horological elegance. This aesthetic profile is no longer produced in this exact version by the Manufacture, making this reference particularly desirable for collectors looking for the line's historic DNA without sacrificing material luxury. Acquiring this two-tone version offers an exceptional ratio between the richness of the chronograph movement and the pleasure of owning an unmissable aviation milestone.
