The history of this Breitling Navitimer
Launched in 1952 to meet the strict requirements of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Navitimer quickly established itself as a genuine flight instrument thanks to its integrated circular slide rule. This technical innovation enabled pilots to perform all navigation calculations whilst in flight. The Breitling Navitimer Automatic 36, reference U17327211A1U1, preserves this functional heritage whilst offering exquisite jewellery-quality craftsmanship. The inclusion of a mother-of-pearl dial set with diamonds transforms this functional timepiece into a creation of singular elegance, subtly blending the spirit of aviation with contemporary luxury for everyday wear.
Case, calibre and strap of this Navitimer Automatic 36
The case, measuring 36 millimetres in diameter and 11 millimetres thick, is crafted from stainless steel and 18-carat red gold. The bidirectional fluted bezel in red gold frames a dial of genuine mother-of-pearl with iridescent, shifting hues. The time is displayed via red gold sword-shaped hands and 12 brilliant-cut diamonds serving as hour markers. A domed sapphire crystal, treated with anti-reflective coating on both sides, protects the dial. The watch is powered by the Breitling Calibre 17, a self-winding mechanical movement certified as a chronometer by the COSC. This movement, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, offers a power reserve of 38 hours. The solid steel caseback ensures water resistance to 30 metres. The two-tone, 7-row bracelet alternates between brushed and polished steel and polished red gold, fastening with a concealed folding clasp.
