The history of this Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Blue Bronze
The House of Bell & Ross has its origins in the rigorous design of on-board instruments for naval aviation and special forces. Today, the emblematic square case housing a round dial is an essential signature of contemporary watch design. With the Diver collection, the brand applies its absolute demands for military legibility to the implacable constraints of abyssal environments. This Bell & Ross BR 03-92 Diver Blue Bronze reference BR0392-D-LU-BR/SCA pays direct and material tribute to the underwater explorers of the last century. The brand has chosen to forge this limited edition from a solid block of CuSn8 bronze. Before the arrival of modern stainless alloys, this metal dominated naval engineering, being used to equip the fittings and heavy helmets of divers. This material has the fascinating characteristic of reacting chemically to its environment to develop a natural and exclusive patina that effectively protects it from salt corrosion.
Case, calibre and bracelet of this BR 03-92 Diver Blue Bronze
The robust square case measures 42 mm square and features softened angles held in place by 4 massive fixing screws. To ensure perfect wearing comfort and avoid any skin reactions, the back of the watch is machined from stainless steel and features a deep engraving depicting a historic diving helmet. The unidirectional rotating safety bezel features a flat insert in deep-blue anodised aluminium. Beneath the thick anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the matt navy blue dial contrasts intensely with the imposing gold applique hour-markers generously filled with Super-LumiNova material. The date window is discreetly recessed between 4 and 5 o'clock. The BR-CAL.302 calibre self-winding mechanical movement powers the sword-shaped hands and lollipop-type second hand. This reliable Swiss mechanism beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and houses 25 jewels ensuring a power reserve of 40 hours. The water-resistance is certified to withstand pressures of up to 300 metres. The stitched navy blue rubber strap fits perfectly between the straight lugs and closes with a large pin buckle fashioned from the same evolving alloy as the watch.
Why this Bell & Ross watch
The major attraction of this special series limited to 999 pieces lies in the truly organic nature of its material. Bronze naturally oxidises on contact with oxygen and the wearer's skin. As a result, no two timepieces age in the same way. The watch gradually acquires a unique visual identity shaped entirely by the adventures of its owner. The second-hand market offers the opportunity to acquire this reference of great technical integrity at a price that is highly coherent with its rich horological endowment. The exceptional chromatic contrast between the navy blue of the dial and the warm hues of the oxidised metal offers a particularly assertive and elegant presence on the wrist.
