The history of this Baume & Mercier Capeland Shelby Cobra
Founded in 1830, the Baume & Mercier Maison possesses a rich horological heritage. The Capeland Shelby Cobra chronograph pays a mechanical tribute to an automotive legend of its era. In 1963, Carroll Shelby’s Shelby Cobra Roadster won its first American championship against formidable European competition. To commemorate this technical achievement, the manufacture released reference MOA10282 in exactly 1963 pieces. The number 15 engraved on the sapphire caseback corresponds to the exact racing number of chassis CSX2128, victorious that year. This model blends the classic elegance of the Capeland line with the visual codes of motor racing circuits.
Case, calibre and bracelet of this Capeland Shelby Cobra
Crafted in stainless steel, the 44 mm case alternates polished and brushed surfaces to emphasise its architecture. Its open caseback reveals the automatic BM13753 movement based on a Valjoux 7753 architecture. The openworked oscillating weight decorated with Geneva stripes powers this calibre, which beats at 4 Hz and delivers a 42-hour power reserve, supported by 27 jewels. The deep black dial features two subtle anthracite grey vertical stripes recalling racing liveries. The central seconds hand ends with a cobra-head-shaped counterweight. The ensemble guarantees water resistance to 50 metres. The watch is fitted with a textured black vulcanised rubber strap with yellow stitching and a bright yellow lining. It fastens with a stainless steel folding clasp featuring polished and brushed finishes.
