The story behind the Baltic MR01
Baltic has built its identity on a vintage-inspired aesthetic. The Baltic MR01 Blue was created with a specific technical aim in mind: to offer an affordable micro-rotor movement. Historically the preserve of traditional watchmakers, this architecture allows the oscillating weight to be recessed into the movement, thereby refining the watch’s profile. This approach is complemented by a classic design. The concept is based on a quest for understated proportions, evoking the style of timepieces from the 1940s.
Case, calibre and strap of this MR01
This timepiece features a 36 mm diameter stainless steel case with a thickness of 10 mm. The polished bezel contrasts with the brushed sides. The highly domed Hesalite crystal protects a deep blue dial. The dial features a grained finish in the centre and a brushed hour ring set with applied Arabic numerals. A guilloché-finished small seconds sub-dial is positioned at 7 o’clock. Polished leaf-shaped hands sweep across the dial. The transparent case back reveals the Hangzhou 5000A automatic movement. This mechanism beats at a frequency of 4 Hz and offers a power reserve of 42 hours. It reveals decorated bridges and a gold micro-rotor. The watch is water-resistant to 30 metres. The wrist is adorned with a rice-grain-style steel bracelet with a folding clasp.
Why this Baltic watch
The combination of a blue dial and a rice-grain bracelet is a harmonious choice. The second-hand market allows you to acquire this timepiece without having to endure the waiting times often associated with the brand’s new releases. The watch’s appeal lies in the inclusion of the micro-rotor, an architectural complication that is unusual in this range, offering a definite visual appeal for enthusiasts of mechanical watches.
