The history of this Audemars Piguet RoyStonea
This vintage Audemars Piguet belongs to the RoyStonea collection, unveiled by the Le Brassus-based brand in 1993 at the European Watch and Jewellery Fair in Basel. Its name is derived from the botanical genus of royal palms. The first versions presented that year were set with 104 diamonds, and one of them featured a blue topaz crystal. Reference 77129BA features the same round yellow gold case without any gemstones, with a white dial bearing Roman numerals that gives the design a more classic look. Founded in 1875, Audemars Piguet has always maintained, alongside its sports models, a more discreet dress watch range. This watch, produced around 2000, is a prime example.
Case, calibre and strap of this RoyStonea
The 30 mm case in 18-carat yellow gold comprises a wide polished bezel set upon a stepped middle, framed by four ball-shaped lugs. The brushed case back is secured by four screws and bears the model name engraved in relief. The fluted crown is set with a cabochon, and a sapphire crystal protects the dial. This white dial features black Roman numerals, a railway-track minute scale and two leaf-shaped hands, displaying only the hours and minutes. Inside beats the hand-wound Calibre 2080, a mechanical movement with 20 jewels which the manufacture fully overhauled in April 2026. Its 30 mm diameter suits a slender wrist as well as those seeking a smaller dress watch. The original Audemars Piguet black alligator strap fastens with a pin buckle bearing the AP monogram.
Why this Audemars Piguet watch
The RoyStonea is no longer listed in the Audemars Piguet catalogue and can now only be purchased second-hand. This particular example has the advantage of having been fully serviced by the manufacturer in 2026, as evidenced by the quotation and invoice, which provide precise details of the work carried out on its Calibre 2080. For those wishing to wear the signature of the Le Brassus-based brand beyond the Royal Oak range, it features a solid gold case, a hand-wound mechanical movement and a understated dial that is easy to read at a glance. It is also a way of exploring vintage Audemars Piguet through a little-known collection, whose design remains faithful to the round, dress watches that the manufacture has been producing since its inception.
Contents and condition
The watch is supplied in a brown leather travel case, along with the green Audemars Piguet service box and two documents from the manufacture: the quotation and the invoice for the full servicing carried out in April 2026. Its condition is most evident on the bezel, where micro-scratches and a more pronounced mark at around the 2 o’clock position are evidence of genuine wear. The case has not been repolished and retains its original proportions and edges. The strap shows signs of wear, particularly around the buckle holes. As this watch is over 25 years old, its original water resistance is no longer guaranteed; it should therefore be kept away from water, showers and baths.
