The story behind this Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar
This Audemars Piguet Perpetual Calendar is part of a limited edition of 70 pieces that the Le Brassus-based company produced to mark the 700th anniversary of the Swiss Confederation, celebrated in 1991, seven centuries after the Federal Pact of 1291. As a specialist in complications, the brand launched its first series of wristwatches featuring a perpetual calendar with a leap year indicator as early as 1955. Reference 25717PT features this complication in a platinum case of classic proportions. Each timepiece comes with a numbered certificate signed in Le Brassus, a presentation box bearing a plaque engraved with the edition’s name, and a case back engraved with ‘Limited Edition’ and ‘1291 – 1991’.
Case, calibre and bracelet of this Perpetual Calendar
The 33 mm platinum case features a polished stepped bezel set against a satin-finished middle section, framed by polished teardrop-shaped lugs and a fluted crown. The screw-down caseback, with a circular satin finish, bears the commemorative engraving and hallmarks. Beneath the sapphire crystal, the white dial displays the day at 9 o’clock, the month at 12 o’clock and the date at 3 o’clock in three slightly recessed sub-dials, with blued steel hands. The moon phase is positioned at 6 o’clock, surmounted by a moon age scale graduated up to 29½. Applied baton hour markers and baton hands ensure clear readability. The hand-wound calibre 2003/2805 combines the 2003 base movement with the 2805 perpetual calendar module developed by Audemars Piguet, resulting in a movement just 3.2 mm thick. This perpetual calendar takes into account the length of each month and leap years, and requires no adjustment until 2100. Adjustment buttons recessed into the case allow each display to be set. The watch is fitted with a black leather strap fastened with an AP-signed pin buckle.
Why this Audemars Piguet watch
The brand’s current catalogue features the perpetual calendar in 38 and 41 mm sizes, in the Royal Oak and Code 11.59 collections. This model offers the same complication in a 33 mm diameter with manual winding – proportions no longer found in shops. The platinum, denser than gold, gives this small case a substantial feel on the wrist. For enthusiasts of Audemars Piguet’s perpetual calendars, this platinum Perpetual Calendar combines a complication that the Maison has been producing in series since 1955, a limited run of 70 pieces, and a full service to be carried out by the manufacture in 2026.
