The history of this Audemars Piguet Classique
This Audemars Piguet Classique, reference 14675BA, belongs to the range of round dress watches that the Maison, established in Le Brassus since 1875, produces alongside the Royal Oak. It features an 18-carat yellow gold case measuring 36 mm, a central seconds hand and a date display at 3 o’clock. Its movement is part of the family of 11½-ligne calibres – measuring 26 mm – derived from a LeCoultre & Cie. ébauche. Audemars Piguet launched the range in 1977 with the calibre 2123, which gave the Royal Oak its first central seconds hand. The calibre 2225 in this watch is the 4 Hz evolution of that movement, introduced in 1997 as the successor to the 2125, and also powers the 36 mm Royal Oak 14790 from that period. This example was sold in August 1997 by the Audemars Piguet boutique in Geneva, on Quai du Mont-Blanc, whose stamp appears on its certificate of origin.
Case, calibre and strap of this Classique
The 36 mm round case in 18-carat yellow gold features a polished double-stepped bezel, satin-finished sides and short lugs. The clipped case back, brushed in concentric circles, bears the gold hallmarks. The silver-coloured dial features the AP monogram applied at 12 o’clock, applied baton hour-markers and gold-tone baton hands, with a printed railway-track minute scale and a date window at 3 o’clock. The automatic calibre 2225 beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, contains 36 jewels and offers a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. At 3.25 mm thick, it keeps the watch slim enough to slip under a shirt cuff. The fluted gold crown matches the colour of the case. The burgundy crocodile leather strap, bearing the Audemars Piguet signature on the inside, fastens with a pin buckle stamped with the AP logo.
Why this Audemars Piguet watch
On the second-hand market, this Classique is a vintage Audemars Piguet in gold, accompanied by its certificate of origin and serviced by the manufacture in April 2026. The buyer therefore receives it having been inspected by the Maison itself, with a documented history dating back to its first sale. Its 36 mm diameter reflects the proportions of dress watches from that era. It showcases the craftsmanship of Le Brassus and features a calibre shared with the Royal Oak, in a understated design, without the visible design cues of the flagship collection.
Contents and condition
The watch is supplied with its outer box, its green leather case, its certificate of origin and warranty dated August 1997, its Audemars Piguet label, as well as the box and invoice for the full service carried out by Audemars Piguet in April 2026. The case and dial are in very good condition, with slight signs of wear. The crocodile strap shows signs of regular use, visible on its edges and buckles. As with any watch over 25 years old, the original water resistance is no longer guaranteed, even after servicing. It should therefore be kept away from water, whether in the shower or whilst washing your hands.
