An Art Deco-inspired target ring
The name ‘Art Deco’ derives from the 1925 International Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris, which established geometry, symmetry and the white of diamonds set in platinum or white gold. This second-hand target ring echoes this style in three concentric rows. At the centre, an old-cut diamond of approximately 0.49 ct is recognisable by its high crown, wide facets and open culet. This cut predates the modern brilliant cut standardised by Marcel Tolkowsky in 1919 and reflects light in broader, less fragmented flashes. The setting is in 18-carat white gold, hallmarked 750. On the finger, the round setting appears as a single white surface, through which the deeper brilliance of the central stone shines.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The central diamond is set in a closed setting, a band of metal that encircles the stone and protects its round cut. Surrounding it is a first circle of 12 round diamonds totalling approximately 0.35 ct, followed by a second circle of 26 round diamonds totalling approximately 0.16 ct, all set in a grain setting. A polished white gold fillet separates each row and defines the centrepiece. The total weight of the diamonds is estimated at approximately 1.00 ct. Beneath the setting, an openwork basket featuring scroll motifs allows light to pass through from behind and lightens the ring’s head. The smooth band tapers towards the palm, ensuring the ring remains comfortable despite the width of the design.
Why choose this second-hand ring
A double bezel setting requires 38 stones to be set by hand, grain by grain – a labour-intensive process that significantly increases the price of a new creation. Second-hand, this ring features nearly one carat of diamonds and a centre stone in an antique cut – a style that has become rare in contemporary jewellery. Its Art Deco style gives it a graphic appeal that stands on its own, whether worn as an engagement ring or on its own on the right hand.
