The story behind this Franck Muller Conquistador Grand Prix
Franck Muller designed the Conquistador Grand Prix collection to celebrate the thrill of motor racing, taking direct inspiration from the spectacular Singapore night-time Formula 1 Grand Prix. This daring approach led the Geneva-based company to push back its own technical and aesthetic limits. For the first time in its history, the Manufacture incorporated Ergal, an ultra-light and highly resistant aluminium alloy traditionally reserved for the aerospace industry and the manufacture of racing chassis. This innovation required the development of new watchmaking machining methods. The 9900 SC GP model is part of this innovative vision, offering an extreme sports watch that combines remarkable presence with absolute comfort.
Case, calibre and strap of this Conquistador Grand Prix
The sculptural silhouette of this timepiece rests on an extra-large case measuring 48 millimetres wide by 62 millimetres long, adopting the three-dimensional Cintrée Curvex curvature so dear to the brand. Crafted in titanium with precise vertical brushing and enhanced by grooved side inserts in black Ergal, the case middle hugs the wrist perfectly despite being 14 millimetres thick. Protected by a thick, strongly domed sapphire crystal, the black dial features a complex three-dimensional guilloché pattern of textured waves. The dark background contrasts with the large applied Arabic numerals and skeletonised glaive-type hands. The central second hand features a bright red arrow, adding a touch of sporty dynamism, while a discreet aperture displays the date at 6 o'clock. The circumference of the dial features a flange indicating 360 degrees and the points of the compass. The watch is powered by the Manufacture automatic movement Calibre FM 800, oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and guaranteeing a power reserve of 42 hours. This complex mechanism, comprising 21 jewels, is concealed beneath a solid titanium caseback secured by 4 black screws. The whole is mounted on a robust matt black rubber strap perfectly integrated into the lugs, sealed by an engraved titanium pin buckle, and guarantees water resistance tested to a depth of 100 metres.
