A twisted band of diamonds in white gold
This 18-carat white gold eternity ring features a continuous twisted band, with loops set with 15 brilliant-cut diamonds. Whilst full-circle rings had existed before, it was De Beers who, in the 1960s, established the eternity wedding ring as a gift in its own right, to create a market for small diamonds. Here, each stone weighs approximately 0.08 carats, totalling around 1.20 carats – a weight estimated based on their size. They run uninterrupted all the way round the finger. This second-hand, unsigned piece is recognisable by its design, which is more sculptural than that of a claw-set wedding ring.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The setting rests on a gold band that undulates and crosses over itself, forming 15 successive loops. Each diamond is set in a closed setting, within a polished gold collar that protects its girdle, without any protruding prongs. Beneath each stone, an openwork cut into the body of the ring allows light to enter from below. Viewed from the side, the profile remains scalloped. The exterior is mirror-polished, the interior satin-finished. The structure is substantial for a wedding ring of this type, giving it a secure fit on the finger and a robust setting. When worn, each diamond sparkles clearly within its circle of white gold, amidst the reflections of the polished twisted band.
Why choose this second-hand wedding ring
A setting of this weight, with 15 bezel settings crafted one by one, requires a significant amount of workshop time, which is fully reflected in the price of a new creation. On the second-hand market, this full-circle ring offers approximately 1.20 carats of diamonds and a generous amount of gold, without having to pay for the craftsmanship. Its design sets it apart from the more common claw-set or rail-set wedding rings. It can be worn on its own, or alongside a solitaire ring that matches its white gold colour.
Contents and condition
The inner band bears hallmarks and a hand-engraved workshop signature. The ring is size 53 and, like any full-circle wedding ring, cannot be resized without re-setting the stones. Our artisan jeweller has polished it and checked the settings. A slight porosity in the cast metal remains visible on one side – a manufacturing mark that polishing does not remove. It is supplied in a The Swiss Collector box.
