The history of this Dior Chiffre Rouge M05
Dior introduced in 2004 a radical vision of watchmaking under the impulse of its menswear artistic direction with the Chiffre Rouge collection. The Dior Chiffre Rouge M05 reference CD084B40R001 forms part of this deliberately post-industrial lineage. Historically, the name originates from the date window whose number 8 appeared in red to honour the founder’s lucky number. The approach was not merely aesthetic. It reflected a desire to establish the brand within the highly exclusive circle of Haute Horlogerie mechanics. For this limited edition of only 200 pieces worldwide, the Parisian Maison partnered with the prestigious Swiss manufacture Zenith to develop an entirely new kinetic concept.
Case, calibre and bracelet of this Chiffre Rouge M05
Its asymmetrical 41.5 mm case features a steel structure entirely overmoulded in matte black rubber. This singular geometry, widened on the right flank, naturally protects the deeply guilloché winding crown encircled by a vivid red ring. A smooth black ceramic fixed bezel overlooks a dial divided into 2 distinct zones. The upper half absorbs the light while the lower section comes alive through the exclusive Dior Inversé calibre. This self-winding mechanical movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a 42-hour power reserve. Its 38-jewel architecture reveals a majestic technical achievement with the functional oscillating weight positioned on the dial side. Crafted in solid white gold and then blackened, this rotor displays a cotton piqué motif paying tribute to masculine tailoring fabrics. The screwed caseback integrates a red-tinted sapphire crystal revealing the inner mechanics. The watch is water-resistant to 50 metres and fitted on a bracelet alternating polished steel links with black rubber-coated elements secured by a folding clasp.
Why this Dior watch
Acquiring this piece represents a rare opportunity on the pre-owned market. Limited to only 200 examples, it embodies the perfect fusion between the demands of a great Parisian luxury house and the uncompromising expertise of a Le Locle manufacture. The inverted rotor complication transforms time reading into a precise mechanical ballet. Offered at a particularly attractive price compared to its original retail value, this dark and textured configuration remains unobtainable through the official network. It is aimed at discerning collectors seeking a timepiece with a strong character, combining advanced horological technicality with uncompromising architectural design.
