Blancpain Fifty Fathoms No Rad
Blancpain Fifty Fathoms No Rad Vintage
Self-winding mechanical movement.
Black calf leather strap with red stitching and steel pin buckle, black dial with central small seconds and date at 3 o'clock. Plexiglas glass.
In the 1960s, the German army purchased the Fifty Fathoms RPG1, sometimes referred to as the "BUND No Rad". The watch featured a "no radiations" symbol on the dial, indicating the absence of radium. Radium, a radioactive material used to make hands and indexes luminescent, was potentially hazardous to health.
This watch was launched in 1953 specifically for divers: shockproof, super waterproof and antimagnetic.
It was christened Fifty Fathoms because 50 fathoms (91.45 meters) was considered the maximum depth a diver could reach with the oxygen available at the time.
Vintage watch in its juice.
