The Tonneau watch appeared in 1906: an open parenthesis on a flinqué dial with an oblong, curved shape. Simple in appearance, it imposes its lines on the mechanism that follows them, like a technical feat. Its Roman numerals and cabochon sapphire set in the winding crown are the precursors of Cartier's watchmaking identity.
