The first Accutron was released in 1960 and represented a revolution in the watchmaking industry for being the first electric tuning-fork watch. Its inventor, Max Hetzel, was born in Basel and joined the company in 1948. The tuning fork was powered by a transistor and an electronic oscillator, so Accutron is considered the first "electronic watch". Over 4 million watches were sold until production ceased in 1977. The brand's most famous model is the futuristic Accutron Spaceview, featured in the film Les contes immoraux with Fabrice Luchini's legendary scene at the beach. In 2010, as a tribute to 50 years of watchmaking innovation, a hand-crafted Accutron Collector numbered to 1,000 was launched and sold out even before its release. In 2014, the Accutron II Alpha model, based on the spaceview shield design and equipped with a precisionist movement, was launched.
