The history of this Zenith Pilot Big Date Flyback
The House of Zenith has had an unfailing link with aeronautics since the earliest days of aviation. In the early twentieth century, Louis Blériot crossed the English Channel with a Zenith timepiece on his wrist. To celebrate one hundred and sixty years of existence, the Le Locle-based brand is unveiling an exclusive version of its aviator's chronograph under the reference 49.4002.3652/51.I009, produced in a limited edition of 160 pieces worldwide. This anniversary edition takes up the visual codes of historic on-board instruments, with a grooved dial reminiscent of the corrugated metal of vintage aircraft cabins. The prominent crown modernizes the traditional onion shape, once designed to be handled with thick layers of leather. This model combines the heritage of the skies with a resolutely contemporary material approach.
Case, caliber and bracelet of this Pilot Big Date Flyback
The 42.5 mm-diameter case is machined from blue ceramic benefiting from a matt micro-blasted finish. This technical choice offers remarkable resistance to scratches while avoiding annoying reflections in mid-air. The blue opaline dial features large applied Arabic numerals filled with white luminescent material for optimal day and night legibility. The rectangular pushers and fluted titanium crown contrast with the case. On the back, a sapphire crystal reveals the high-frequency automatic chronograph movement beating at 36,000 vibrations per hour. This El Primero 3652 caliber offers a 60-hour power reserve and is composed of 303 elements, including 35 jewels. It incorporates a flyback function and a patented instantaneous large date mechanism that tilts the two discs in less than 0.03 seconds. The watch is fitted with a blue fabric-look rubber strap with folding clasp. A quick-change system allows this link to be replaced without the use of tools.
Why this Zenith watch
Acquiring a numbered limited edition is always a special opportunity for the discerning enthusiast. Its monochrome blue color contrasts with the range's usual steel or titanium productions. The Manufacture's ceramic versions are in high demand, and are often difficult to access on the traditional market. The choice of a dial with deep grooves creates a captivating play of shadows depending on the angle of the wrist. The Swiss Collector offers you a timepiece that combines the technicality of a legendary movement with cutting-edge aesthetics. The presence of the in-flight return complication makes it a real pleasure to use during successive timekeeping.
