The history of this TAG Heuer Grand Carrera
The House of TAG Heuer unveiled the Grand Carrera collection in 2007 to pay a heartfelt tribute to Grand Touring racing cars. This particular model incorporates the CAV518H reference at the heart of its stealth identity. The major innovation of this line lies in its exclusive Rotating System display. Rather than a hand sweeping across a traditional sub-counter, a disc rotates beneath a half-moon-shaped window, a direct inspiration from the rev counters on car dashboards. The birth of this limited edition of 150 was in response to a specific request from British collectors in the late 2000s. As avid motorsport fans, they wanted a more aggressive and technical version than the bright steel models. The Manufacture therefore designed this black-coated titanium version, highlighted by electric blue accents unseen in the standard range.
Case, calibre and strap of this Grand Carrera
This timepiece features a case machined from grade 2 titanium, sandblasted and then black PVD-treated, measuring 43 mm in diameter and 14.80 mm thick. The fixed tachometric bezel frames a highly curved sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating. The structured matt black dial features fine concentric engine-turning and highlights the metal appliques of the Rotating System counters. The central chronograph hand is a bright blue, contrasting with the red lettering on the dial. The double-glazed tinted sapphire crystal caseback reveals the Calibre 17 RS. This 37-jewel self-winding mechanical movement oscillates at a frequency of 4 Hz and guarantees a power reserve of 42 hours. It is chronometer-certified and water-resistant to 100 metres. The watch is mounted on its matt black alligator leather strap reference FC6273, enhanced with blue stitching and fastened by a PVD titanium folding clasp with double safety push-pieces.
