The history of this TAG Heuer Carrera
Unveiled under the leadership of Jean-Claude Biver, the TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02T, reference CAR5A8Y.FC6377 reinterprets the heritage of the automotive chronograph first launched in 1963. Originally designed to offer optimum readability for drivers, the Carrera range has now evolved to incorporate advanced technical features. The brand has designed a COSC-certified chronograph combined with a flying tourbillon, assembled in the workshops at La Chaux-de-Fonds. Upon its launch, this model redefined access to horological complications by incorporating an ultra-lightweight tourbillon cage made of titanium and carbon, thus combining mechanical precision with contemporary engineering.
Case, movement and strap of this Carrera
The 45 mm case is built around a Grade 5 titanium body coated in black PVD, complemented by brushed-finish lugs. The fixed black ceramic bezel features a tachymeter scale and frames a skeletonised dial in anthracite tones. This openwork structure houses the chronograph sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock, as well as the flying tourbillon cage at 6 o’clock. The open case back, set with a sapphire crystal, reveals the Heuer 02T calibre, an automatic movement beating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of 65 hours. Comprising 284 components, this watch is fitted with a hybrid strap in matt black alligator leather on a rubber base, fastened with a black PVD-coated titanium folding clasp.
Why this TAG Heuer watch
This technical configuration combines complex watchmaking mechanics with contemporary materials. The use of grade 5 titanium ensures a lightweight structure suited to a case of this size. The open-worked dial highlights the gear train and the rotation of the tourbillon, meeting the expectations of a collector with an eye for mechanical detail.
