The geometric rigour of the halo solitaire
Born in the 1960s to reconcile the clean lines of the emerald cut with the intense brilliance of the round brilliant, the princess cut imposes a strict architecture. This second-hand ring, an original creation by the Swiss workshop Daniel de Guy under the internal reference 8176, is set around an imposing 1-carat natural diamond. Forged in 18-carat white gold, the setting houses an F-coloured centre stone with SI1 clarity. The modified square cut captures the light with remarkable intensity. The design draws its inspiration from traditional Georgian crowns while offering an imposing volume on the finger.
Architecture and jewellery expertise
The construction of this piece rests on a raised corolla that fully clears the breech of the main diamond. The stone is secured by 4 robust claws that frame the protruding angles of the princess cut. A grain micro-pavage covers the halo and runs down the shoulders of the ring. This meticulous setting brings together 38 brilliant-cut diamonds for a total weight of 0.56 carat. The integrity of the generous gold structure guarantees a clean, balanced look. Polished finishes and white rhodium plating accentuate the overall contrast and clarity.
Why this second-hand engagement ring
Acquiring a contemporary atelier creation represents a substantial investment, amply justified by the hours of modelling and hand-setting. Opting for this second-hand piece provides access to a higher level of Swiss craftsmanship while bypassing the initial manufacturing costs. The combination of the certified centre stone and the paving gives a total volume of 1.56 carats. The halo architecture visually increases the size of the central diamond tenfold, offering a finger presence comparable to that of a 2-carat gem, all supported by a massive setting designed to withstand the stresses of everyday life.
