The Swiss workshop Bolli Goldschmied has based its reputation since 1933 on a sculptural mastery of precious metals. This second-hand ring, reference 150172, illustrates a radical modernist design based on the principle of the central tension setting. At the heart of the setting sits an authentic Tahitian cultured pearl estimated at 9.4 carats. Its perfectly spherical surface reveals a dark orient dominated by deep aubergine and peacock green reflections. This organic radiance contrasts powerfully with the geometric rigour of the forged 950 platinum setting.

The setting takes the form of an extremely wide and dense flat ribbon. The craftsman exploits the exceptional mechanical strength of platinum to achieve a tension hold. The 2 massive ends of the ring enclose the mother-of-pearl under strong pressure. An invisible safety pin passes through the inner shaft to lock the gem in place without the need for a basket or visible claws. The bevelled edges and mirror-polished inner face are in direct contrast to the matt brushed treatment of the outer surface.
