The asymmetrical balance of this Pomellato creation
Founded in Milan in 1967 by Pino Rabolini, the house introduced an approach centred on bold volumes. The Luna collection, now discontinued, exemplifies this style with its characteristic asymmetry. This pair of pre-owned earrings features two natural blue chalcedony stones cut into full-round cabochons. These gemstones display an opalescent blue-grey hue, with an estimated total weight of 23.50 carats. The contrast between the milky surface of the stones and the 18-carat rose gold defines the look of this piece.
Design and jewellery craftsmanship
The setting is based on a tension-holding mechanism. A solid upper prong crowns the sphere, whilst a lower cup ensures it sits securely. This design frees the gem from any lateral constraints and allows light to pass through. The solid rose gold structure is fully polished, creating a uniform mirror-like finish. The toggle clasp ensures a secure fit on the earlobe.
Why choose these second-hand dormeuse earrings
Acquiring this designer piece provides access to Milanese designs from the 2000s. The use of solid gold gives the setting a material density that has become rare in equivalent contemporary designs. This creation offers a balance between the volume of gold, the weight of the gemstones and the craftsmanship that is consistent with a historic collection.
