The history of this Pierre DeRoche SplitRock
The Maison Pierre DeRoche cultivates a fierce independence in the heart of the Vallée de Joux. Founded by Pierre Dubois, heir to a line of master watchmakers, the brand stands out for its daring mechanical designs. The SplitRock model illustrates this singular vision of haute horlogerie by overturning traditional display codes. At the heart of this approach is the development of an original complication, the concentric chronograph. Historically, the watchmaking industry has always separated the chronograph counters on the dial to make them easier to read. Pierre DeRoche has taken the opposite approach by grouping the hours, minutes and chronograph seconds on a single axis, a feat made possible by its exclusive partnership with Dubois Dépraz. Reference SPR30001ACI0-004CRO is part of the Big Numbers line, characterized by assertive aesthetics and sculptural legibility. This timepiece demonstrates the brand's ability to marry classically shaped architecture with complex, cutting-edge mechanics.
Case, caliber and bracelet of this SplitRock
This timepiece features a rectangular stainless steel case measuring 29 mm wide by 42.5 mm long. Its curved lines naturally hug the wrist and are enhanced by a subtle alternation of polished and satin-finished surfaces. The silvered dial is adorned with an intricate guilloché pattern that catches the light and adds depth to the overall effect. Four imposing rhodium-plated Arabic numerals rise in relief to mark the main hours, justifying the name Big Numbers. In the lower part, the famous concentric chronograph comes to life with its three coaxial hands, while a small seconds hand is located at noon and a date window is discreetly integrated at three o'clock. This complex mechanism is driven by the PDR 4001-1 caliber, an automatic movement visible through the sapphire caseback. This exclusive movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 42 hours, all orchestrated by 39 jewels guaranteeing minimal friction. The watch fastens with a genuine black alligator leather strap secured by a steel butterfly folding clasp.
