A Piaget bangle set with diamonds
This 18-carat white gold Piaget bracelet is an 8 mm wide clasp-style bangle, mirror-polished, with the front set with 9 brilliant-cut diamonds totalling approximately 0.06 ct. Founded in 1874 in La Côte-aux-Fées, in the Swiss Jura, the Maison first made a name for itself with ultra-thin watchmaking before turning its hand to gold and diamonds in its Geneva workshops. Here we see that watchmaker’s precision applied to jewellery, with a design devoid of any apparent motif or logo, where only the uniformity of the metal catches the eye. The diamonds, precisely spaced, punctuate the curve like markers on a dial. This pre-owned piece of jewellery sits flush against a shirt cuff, worn on its own or paired with a metal-strap watch.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The body of the bangle features a flat, polished outer surface, edged by a stepped profile that casts a fine line of light along its contour. The nine round brilliant-cut diamonds are set in a closed setting, each in a bezel flush with the metal. This setting encloses the stone, protects it from impact and leaves a smooth surface, free from prongs that might snag a sleeve. The stones cover half of the visible surface of the bracelet, whilst the reverse side remains entirely smooth. The interior has a satin finish, which feels soft against the wrist. A discreet hinge allows the bracelet to open, whilst an 8-shaped safety clasp ensures it stays securely fastened.
Why choose this second-hand bracelet
An 18-carat gold opening bangle of this thickness, with an integrated hinge and box clasp, requires a level of goldsmithing and a quantity of metal that significantly drive up the price of a new creation. This Piaget bracelet offers a substantial, signature design, well below the price of a white gold set bracelet currently offered by the House. Its understated design can be worn with other jewellery as well as with a watch, without making the outfit look dated.
