The history of this Patek Philippe timepiece
The year 2014 marked 175 years of uninterrupted activity for the Maison. To mark this occasion, Patek Philippe commissioned special handcrafted pieces for its clients. This trinket tray features the design of a ‘Dôme’ cloisonné enamel clock on display at the Patek Philippe Museum. The illustration highlights the brand’s historic building on Quai Général Guisan. The piece establishes a direct link between the art of porcelain-making and the history of the Stern family.
Design and finish of this trinket dish
Crafted from Limoges porcelain, the piece rests on a square base measuring 19 centimetres. The sides flare out to form a bowl edged with a gold border along the upper rim. The centre depicts the Geneva salon with two lateen sails sailing on Lake Geneva. The wide, sloping border features a midnight blue background. This area incorporates motifs of constellations and suns, echoing the manufacture’s astronomical complications.
Why this Patek Philippe piece
This edition was not available through the retail channel. The piece allows a touch of Genevan culture to be incorporated into a private space. The starry sky motif remains a popular choice amongst collectors as it directly evokes the brand’s high-complication timepieces.
Contents and condition
The piece comes with its original Patek Philippe presentation box, covered in a taupe-coloured fabric embossed with the Calatrava cross. The item is in very good condition. The upper gold border is intact and the decorative printing is clear. The un-enamelled base shows slight marks resulting from natural wear whilst resting on a flat surface.
