The story behind this Panerai Radiomir Venti
Since 2000, the Paneristi.com forum has brought together collectors of the Florentine brand and has become a go-to resource for enthusiasts of the brand worldwide. To mark its 20th anniversary, Panerai unveiled the Panerai Radiomir Venti PAM02020 in October 2020, a limited edition of 1,020 pieces developed by the Laboratorio di Idee in direct collaboration with forum members. ‘Venti’ means 20 in Italian, and the word is engraved between the lugs at 6 o’clock. The model draws on the design of the first Radiomir, created in the late 1930s and named after a luminescent material patented by Panerai. The brown dial and the matt patina of the case replicate the appearance of the vintage examples that have survived to the present day, whilst the gold-coloured sword-shaped hands echo a detail from the earliest models.
Case, movement and strap of this Radiomir Venti
The cushion-shaped case, measuring 45 mm in diameter and 14.15 mm thick, is crafted from AISI 316L steel, with a matt, aged-effect finish on both the case middle and the bezel. It features wire-style lugs, a conical crown stamped with the OP logo, a sapphire crystal and a screw-down, brushed dodecagonal caseback, engraved with the blue-lacquered 20th-anniversary emblem and the edition number. It is water-resistant to 100 m. The brown sunburst sandwich dial features cut-out Arabic numerals and hour markers, filled with beige Super-LumiNova, as well as the forum’s name and the years 2000–2020 at 6 o’clock. The hand-wound P.6000 calibre offers a 72-hour power reserve from a single mainspring barrel. It beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour, comprises 110 components and 19 jewels, and its stop-seconds mechanism stops the balance wheel when the crown is pulled out, ensuring precise time-setting. The beige calfskin suede strap with ecru topstitching, mounted on a 26 mm lug width, fastens with a trapezoidal pin buckle in patinated steel, signed Panerai.
Why this Panerai watch
This edition is no longer in production, and this particular example still comes with all its original documentation and packaging. The Radiomir Venti is designed for those who want the architecture of the historic Radiomir models without compromise: hours and minutes only, manual winding and a cushion-shaped case with wire lugs, powered by a modern calibre offering a three-day power reserve. The sunburst dial changes colour depending on the light, ranging from deep brown to taupe, whilst the beige suede strap emphasises its warmth. The engraved caseback and the word ‘Venti’ between the lugs discreetly remind the wearer of the watch’s history.
