The history of this Panerai Ferrari Granturismo Chronograph
This Panerai Ferrari Granturismo Chronograph is part of the Ferrari Engineered by Officine Panerai collection, launched in 2006 by the Florentine watchmaker for the Maranello-based car manufacturer. The collection was divided into two lines: Scuderia, for the world of racing, and Granturismo, for grand tourers, to which the reference FER00011 belongs. A distinctive feature of this series is that only the prancing horse adorns the dial, whilst the name ‘Panerai’ appears only as an engraving on the caseback. The yellow dial echoes the background of the Ferrari crest, the colour of Modena, Enzo Ferrari’s birthplace. This version was only produced for a few years.
Case, movement and strap of this Granturismo
The 45 mm cushion-shaped steel case features a brushed bezel and polished lugs secured by screws, with a knurled crown and two knurled pushers, the crown bearing the Prancing Horse emblem. Beneath the sapphire crystal, the dial features Arabic numerals, two black sub-dials – a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock – as well as a tachymeter scale around the periphery for measuring average speed. The hour and minute hands are luminescent. The solid, numbered case back bears the prancing horse on a chequered pattern, and the watch is water-resistant to 100 metres. The OP XII self-winding calibre, based on the Valjoux 7753, has 27 jewels, beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 46 hours. It is COSC-certified as a chronometer. The black rubber strap, stamped with the Ferrari name, fastens with a signed steel folding clasp.
Why this Panerai Ferrari watch
It combines Panerai’s watchmaking expertise with the world of Ferrari, in a collection that the brand no longer produces and which can only be found on the second-hand market. The COSC-certified chronograph, the 45 mm cushion-shaped case and the legibility of the yellow dial make this a sports watch with a strong identity, easily recognisable on the wrist. The straps can be changed using the tool provided, allowing you to switch between rubber and leather depending on your needs. The set includes the red lacquered box specific to this collection, along with its two straps.
Contents and condition
The watch is supplied in its red lacquered wooden box, featuring a plaque bearing the names of Ferrari and Officine Panerai, along with its outer box. The set also includes one additional black leather strap with ecru stitching, without a buckle and showing visible signs of wear, as well as a screwdriver for changing the strap. The certificate of authenticity is not provided. Recently polished, the watch has a clean case, with the brushed and polished surfaces having regained their contrast. The dial and hands are clean, and the rubber strap shows only slight signs of wear.
