The history of the Louis Vuitton Jersey bag
The Damier canvas was created in 1888, designed by Louis Vuitton and his son Georges to distinguish the House’s trunks from those of its competitors. In 2017, Louis Vuitton reintroduced this Damier pattern on the Jersey, a city tote bag whose two sides in Damier Ébène canvas frame a large panel of young bull leather. This pre-owned bag, reference N44021, features the Bordeaux colourway, a deep red that complements the brown of the canvas.
Materials, dimensions and finishes
The sides, made of coated Damier Ébène canvas, feature the Louis Vuitton Paris cartouche, whilst the central panel of grained calfskin bears the House’s embossed logo between two gold-coloured rivets. Ochre topstitching highlights the top of the bag and the outline of the panel. The two flat, dark brown leather handles are attached via hinged gold-coloured fastenings and can be carried by hand or over the shoulder. On the sides, two D-rings mounted on leather tabs accommodate the removable Bordeaux calfskin shoulder strap and its two gold-tone carabiners, allowing the bag to be worn across the body. The bag measures approximately 41 cm wide at the top, 31 cm at the base, 28 cm high and 13 cm deep, with a slightly flared silhouette.

The Jersey style gives the Damier Ébène canvas the shape of a work tote, and its shoulder strap allows you to go from the office to the weekend without changing bags. The Bordeaux colourway adds a subtle shade that the canvas alone does not offer, and the coated canvas withstands rain and the wear and tear of regular use. Although it has been worn, it shows only slight signs of use. The canvas retains its vivid colours, the calfskin shows no marks or distortion, and both the handles and corners remain in excellent condition. The gold-tone hardware retains its lustre and the interior is clean.
