The history of the Louis Vuitton Alma bag
The Alma bag is based on an Art Deco design introduced by Louis Vuitton in 1934, which takes its name from the Place de l’Alma in Paris. Its domed silhouette rests on a leather base that gives it its structure, and its double zip fastening runs from one side of the top to the other. This pre-owned Alma BB bag, reference N41221, retains these proportions in the smallest size of the range. It is crafted from Damier Ébène canvas, the brown chequered pattern that the House has been designing since 1888.
Materials, dimensions and finishes
The coated Damier Ébène canvas is edged with smooth dark brown cowhide leather on the base, the fastenings and the two rolled Toron handles. The bag measures 23.5 cm long, 17.5 cm high and 11.5 cm wide. The gold-tone hardware includes the handle rings, the zip pullers stamped with the LV monogram and the padlock engraved with ‘Louis Vuitton Paris’. Honey-coloured topstitching accentuates the dome and the base. A stamped leather bell accompanies the padlock, and the removable, adjustable shoulder strap offers a carrying height of 50 to 62 cm, allowing it to be carried by hand, on the shoulder or across the body.
