The history of this IWC Pilot’s Watch Timezoner
IWC has maintained a long-standing connection with aviation since the 1930s. The ‘Le Petit Prince’ edition pays tribute to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry through watchmaking. The Timezoner model, reference IW395503, features a complication for which the original patent was acquired from the independent watchmaker Michael Schmidt. This innovation allows the traveller to change time zones by pressing and turning the bezel. This action simultaneously adjusts the hour hand and the date without stopping the movement. This timepiece combines the midnight blue dial characteristic of the Le Petit Prince editions with a feature designed for travellers.
Case, calibre and strap of this Timezoner
The 46 mm diameter steel case, 15.2 mm thick, features surfaces alternating between a matt brushed finish and polished bevels. The rotating bezel incorporates a blue ceramic insert displaying key cities. Beneath the domed sapphire crystal, treated with anti-reflective coating on both sides, lies a sunburst blue dial punctuated by painted Arabic numerals and rhodium-plated luminescent hands. The open case back reveals the self-winding Calibre 82760. This in-house movement comprises 226 components and offers a power reserve of 60 hours. Its openworked oscillating weight features a textured gold medallion. The watch is water-resistant to 60 metres. It is secured to the wrist by a brown calfskin strap with light-coloured topstitching, fastened by a steel folding clasp.
