Hublot has teamed up with French sculptor Richard Orlinski to reimagine the design of its collection. The aim is to translate the artist’s geometric concept directly onto the wrist whilst honouring the brand’s horological expertise. The technical challenge of this Hublot Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Orlinski 525.ES.0170.RX.ORL22 lies in the machining of its case. Ceramic is a hard material, and sculpting it with sharp angles without causing it to fracture required the manufacture to redesign its tooling. The result is a play of light in which each facet reflects its surroundings like a miniature sculpture. This approach transforms the line’s rounded silhouette into a three-dimensional structure.
Case, movement and strap of this Classic Fusion Orlinski
The 45 mm case, 13 mm thick, is crafted from polished light blue ceramic. The dodecagonal bezel sits flush with the case, incorporating H-shaped titanium screws. Beneath the anti-reflective sapphire crystal lies the transparent dial, which reveals the mechanics of the HUB1155 calibre. This self-winding skeletonised chronograph movement reveals its micro-bead-blasted bridges and contrasting gear train. It powers the sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock, as well as the integrated date window at 6 o’clock. This movement offers a power reserve of 42 hours and beats at a frequency of 4 Hz thanks to its 207 finely assembled components. The watch is water-resistant to 50 metres and is fitted with a smooth blue rubber strap secured by a steel folding clasp.
