The story behind this Hublot Big Bang
Launched in 2005, the Big Bang collection is based on the combination of traditional materials and technical composites within a layered construction. The White Carbon variant, reference 301.SH.131.RW, exemplifies this approach. Produced in a limited run of 250 pieces for the brand’s network of boutiques, this watch plays on the duality of materials. It contrasts the texture of a woven carbon fibre dial with the smooth surface of a bezel forged from matt white ceramic. This edition is aimed at enthusiasts of sports chronographs seeking a timepiece with a technical profile.
Case, calibre and strap of this Big Bang
The 44 mm diameter case is structured around a central stainless steel block with finishes alternating between brushed surfaces and polished edges. It is topped by a white ceramic bezel secured by six H-shaped titanium screws. The dial features a genuine carbon fibre pattern punctuated by embossed rhodium-plated Arabic numerals and hour markers. The display features three recessed sub-dials and a date window situated between 4 and 5 o’clock. The sapphire crystal case back reveals the HUB4100 calibre, a self-winding chronograph movement comprising 252 components. It beats at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and guarantees a power reserve of 42 hours. The watch is fitted with a textured black rubber strap, secured by a steel folding clasp.
Why this Hublot watch
This numbered edition is of interest on the second-hand market due to its configuration. Originally supplied with white composite side panels and a white rubber strap, this timepiece was modified during a visit to an authorised service centre to feature black side inserts and a black strap. This technical choice creates a striking contrast and enhances its utilitarian appeal.
