The history of this Hublot Big Bang
In 2005, the Swiss manufacture struck a major blow in the industry with the launch of the concept of the art of fusion. Under the direction of Jean-Claude Biver, the brand imagined a timepiece capable of combining noble and technical materials with a natural rubber strap. The design was directly inspired by the shape of a ship's porthole, but took complexity to the extreme by conceiving a case composed of more than 70 elements assembled in layers. This innovative architecture helped to save the brand and set a new standard in high-end sports watchmaking. Reference 342 perfectly illustrates this technical daring.
Case, calibre and bracelet of this Big Bang
The 41 mm-diameter case superimposes a brushed titanium bezel and a central structure incorporating scratch-resistant black ceramic and composite resin. The bezel is firmly secured by 6 visible H-shaped screws. The deep black dial offers optimum readability thanks to its large skeletonised hands and applied indexes filled with luminescent material. The face of the watch is balanced by 3 counters dedicated to the chronograph function and a date window positioned at 4 o'clock. The transparent caseback reveals the self-winding HUB4300 calibre, oscillating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and guaranteeing a power reserve of 42 hours. The whole is mounted on the famous black smooth rubber strap closed by a folding clasp.
Why this Hublot watch
The 41 mm format is a particularly sought-after alternative for watch enthusiasts. Unlike the larger 44 mm versions, this version offers excellent ergonomics and exceptional wearing comfort on most wrists. The combination of lightweight titanium and black ceramic gives this timepiece a stealthy, technical look that is equally suited to a sporting environment and everyday use.
