The Hermès La Clé des Champs scarf by Françoise Faconnet
Designed by Françoise Faconnet and first produced in 1965, La Clé des Champs takes its name from the expression ‘prendre la clé des champs’, meaning to set off freely into the countryside. The design features titmice and sparrows perched on an interlaced pattern of golden foliage, amongst flowering twigs and slender branches. This 90 cm square scarf features a palette of pale pink, white and gold, framed by a cream-coloured lattice bordered in khaki. The HERMÈS-PARIS signature, the title cartouche and the artist’s signature appear in the lower section of the scarf.
Material, dimensions and finishes
The square is woven in silk jacquard and measures 90 x 90 cm. A motif of starbursts, woven tone-on-tone, becomes visible beneath the print depending on the angle of the light, giving the background a subtle texture. Jacquard silk has a denser feel than twill whilst retaining a supple drape. The edges are hand-rolled using the House’s traditional method.

The scarf is delivered in an orange Hermès box bearing the name of the shop ‘Au Panache’, Bahnhofstrasse 31, Zurich, along with its tissue paper. It is in very good condition, with no stains or pulled threads, featuring crisp colours and an intact rolled edge on all four sides. The box has some missing paper and scuff marks on the lid.
