The history of this Hamilton Broadway GMT
The Hamilton Broadway GMT is the heir to a company founded in 1892 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, which built its reputation on railway watches. Its Broadway Limited, marketed as the ‘railway precision watch’, met the requirements of American railway companies, for whom even a slight error in the time could cause an accident. Now based in Biel, Hamilton launched the Broadway GMT in 2018 as the flagship model of its Broadway collection, in a limited edition of 2,018 pieces under reference number H43725131. It debuts the H-14 calibre, an automatic GMT movement exclusive to Hamilton, and features the names of 24 cities – from London to Nouméa – on its ceramic bezel. The case back commemorates this limited edition with the engraving ‘Limited Edition 1 of 2018’.
Case, calibre and strap of this Broadway GMT
The 46 mm stainless steel case is 13.15 mm thick with a lug-to-lug width of 22 mm. Its brushed sides and lugs are accented by polished chamfers, and the crown bears the Hamilton star. The black ceramic rotating bezel is engraved with the names of 24 cities. The black dial with vertical striations is crossed by a grey central band featuring the applied ‘12’, the signature and the date window at 6 o’clock. These striations catch the light on either side of the central band, which remains matt. The hands are coated with Super-LumiNova, and the red, independently adjustable GMT hand traverses a 24-hour graduated flange punctuated by red hour markers. Beneath the sapphire crystal, the self-winding H-14 calibre offers a power reserve of 80 hours. The transparent case back reveals its Hamilton-signed oscillating weight and 25 jewels. The watch is water-resistant to 5 bar, or 50 m. The brushed steel bracelet fastens with a Hamilton-signed double folding clasp.
Why this Hamilton watch
The Broadway GMT is no longer listed in Hamilton’s catalogue, and with a production run of just 2,018 pieces, the second-hand market is now the easiest way to acquire one. It combines a GMT function, an 80-hour power reserve and a ceramic city bezel – a configuration designed with travel in mind. The red hand indicates the home time whilst the main hands follow the local time, without the need for calculation. The ceramic bezel, which is highly scratch-resistant, can withstand frequent wear. Its 46 mm diameter is suited to a wrist that appreciates a watch with a commanding presence.
Contents and condition
This Broadway GMT comes with its Hamilton watch box and outer box, its international warranty card dated June 2022, the warranty booklet, its original label and 3 spare links.
