The enduring brilliance of this full-circle diamond ring
The full-circle diamond ring owes its popularity to De Beers, which launched it in the 1960s as a wedding anniversary gift, partly to showcase smaller diamonds. This full-circle diamond ring follows this design in 18-carat yellow gold, hallmarked 750, and is framed by two smooth gold bands. The circle features 25 white brilliant-cut diamonds, with an estimated total weight of approximately 1.60 carats. An unsigned pre-owned piece, it sits on a substantial setting that gives the finger a striking presence. The three bands join to form a wide band, where the light from the stones flows uninterrupted between two lines of polished gold.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The central band aligns the 25 diamonds in individual 4-prong settings – 100 prongs in total – set side by side between each stone. This setting allows the diamonds to stand out clearly and lets light in from both the sides and from below. A delicate beaded border separates it from the two side bands. These feature a domed profile with a mirror polish on the outside and a satin finish on the inside, which feels soft against the skin. Beneath the stones, the shank is openwork with a scalloped edge, which lightens the structure and makes the setting easier to maintain. The three bands are soldered together to form a single ring, which remains stable when worn.
Why choose this second-hand ring
Creating a full circle of 25 individually set diamonds today, framed by two solid gold bands, requires extensive workshop labour and a significant amount of gold. As a second-hand piece, this ring offers this carat weight and metal content for a significantly lower price than a new design. Its three-band construction also gives it a more striking look than a slim wedding band, whether worn on its own or alongside a more discreet ring.
Contents and condition
The 750 hallmark is stamped in a cartouche on the inside of the band. The ring is size 58. As with any full-circle setting, the continuous setting leaves no space for resizing. Our artisan jeweller has refurbished it by repolishing the gold and checking the setting. It is supplied in a The Swiss Collector presentation box.
