The nautical heritage of the Color Block shackle
Designed in 1966 by Henri Samuel, the Force 10 motif has its roots in sailing, when the designer wove together marine fittings secured with a rivet. This sporty, unisex aesthetic is fully expressed in this pre-owned FRED bracelet. The 0B0155 shackle, crafted from 18-carat white gold, is entirely set with pavé stones, creating a striking colour gradient. Brilliant-cut gemstones follow one another without interruption, combining rubies, spessartite garnets, yellow sapphires, tsavorites, aquamarines, blue sapphires and amethysts for an estimated total weight of 1.00 carat.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The asymmetrical design of this Grand Modèle faithfully reproduces the geometry of a sailing ship’s shackle. The upper surface of the white gold is set using the grain-set technique, allowing the numerous gemstones to lie flush with the metal’s curvature with meticulous precision. The clasp and the outer edge of the right-hand endpiece are treated in the same way. The full mirror polish of the central structure creates a sharp contrast in texture with the fine, twisted weave of the steel cable.
