The history of this Ebel Classic Wave
Founded in 1911 by Eugène Blum and Alice Lévy, the La Chaux-de-Fonds-based manufacture has distinguished itself from the very beginning through its ability to combine horological precision with aesthetic sensibility. In 1977, under the leadership of Pierre-Alain Blum, the Ebel Classic Wave 12840138 watch was launched, bringing a fresh perspective to ladies’ watchmaking. Designed to offer carefully considered ergonomics and a natural visual fluidity, it moved away from the angular shapes favoured in the 1970s in favour of a supple, organic design. Nicknamed the ‘House of Time Architects’, the company reaffirms this architectural heritage through its bezel, secured by five visible through-screws. This design detail draws direct inspiration from the principles of the Modern Movement and reflects the brand’s commitment to architectural heritage, exemplified by the acquisition and restoration of the Villa Turque, designed by Le Corbusier.
Case, movement and strap of this Classic Wave
This timepiece features a 26 mm diameter hexagonal stainless steel case with an ultra-thin profile, ensuring a delicate fit on the wrist. Its round bezel in 18-carat yellow gold is secured by five gold screws and features a factory-set arrangement of 32 brilliant-cut diamonds. The iridescent natural mother-of-pearl dial displays shifting hues in the light. It is set with 11 brilliant-cut diamonds arranged as hour markers. Two yellow gold baton hands sweep across the dial, which has no central seconds hand. The movement is powered by a Swiss-made quartz calibre designed to offer consistent accuracy and an estimated battery life of between 2 and 3 years. The watch is secured by an integrated wave-link bracelet that combines satin-brushed steel with 18k yellow gold links, complemented by a concealed steel folding clasp.

Presented in very good condition, the watch has undergone a meticulous polishing by qualified watchmakers prior to being put up for sale. This work has reduced signs of wear whilst preserving the sharpness of the bevelled edges and the satin-brushed finishes of the case and bracelet. The sapphire crystal is completely scratch-free and the mother-of-pearl dial remains in perfect condition.
