The story behind this Doxa Sub 200
Doxa has a rich heritage linked to underwater exploration. Whilst the colour orange has accompanied the expeditions of leading figures in the world of diving, the Aquamarine version captures another dimension of the marine world. This light matt blue is inspired by the luminous waters of the reefs. Designed to offer a direct gateway to the brand’s universe, the Sub 200 moves away from massive cushion-shaped cases in favour of classic lugs. The design of reference 799.10.241.10 pays a specific tribute to the Skin Diver models of the 1960s. At that time, recreational diving was just beginning to become more widespread and required instruments that were easy to read and suitable for everyday wear.
Case, movement and strap of this Sub 200
The stainless steel case measures 42 mm in diameter and is 13.8 mm thick. The mirror-polished sides contrast with the straight-grained brushed finish applied to the tops of the lugs. The light blue dial is protected by a deeply domed sapphire crystal that replicates the profile of vintage Plexiglas crystals. The applied rhodium-plated hour markers and matt black baton-style hands incorporate white luminescent material to ensure clear readability. The watch is powered by the ETA 2824-2 calibre, a self-winding mechanical movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of 38 hours. A date window at 3 o’clock displays the date. Water-resistant to 200 metres, the case is sealed by a solid caseback engraved with the manufacture’s iconic sailing yacht. The watch is secured by a steel bracelet with articulated links, known as ‘rice grain’ links. A folding clasp with a diving extension completes the ensemble.
