The balance between the circle and the square at dinh van
In 1971, six years after it was founded, dinh van designed Le Cube Diamant, a piece that juxtaposes the square shape of the metal with the circle of the stone. These dinh van Le Cube Diamant stud earrings in 18-carat yellow gold echo this principle on the scale of a cube measuring 4.2 mm per side, with a brilliant-cut diamond set on the front face. The two stones total approximately 0.14 ct, allowing the geometry of the gold to take centre stage. Offered here as pre-owned jewellery, the pair retains the Maison’s signature, engraved in lowercase letters on the back of each cube.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
Each cube is mirror-polished on all its faces. The front face holds the diamond in a slightly recessed closed setting, which encircles the stone with a fine gold fillet and protects it from impact. The side faces feature a round opening that reveals the diamond’s pavilion, visible in profile, and allows light to enter beneath the stone. The brilliant cut thus reflects the light through the open face as well as through the openwork sides. On the back, a gold post is fitted with an Alpa clasp featuring a domed disc with serrated edges, which locks onto the end of the post. When worn, the 4.2 mm cubes remain crisp and compact, positioning the diamond directly in the line of sight.
Why these second-hand stud earrings
The current studs in the collection feature larger diamonds. This pair retains a more understated scale, suitable for everyday wear or for a second piercing. With dinh van earrings, buying second-hand gives you access to the same fine craftsmanship – an openwork cube polished on every side and an original bezel setting – without the cost of a shop purchase. The openwork cube, designed in 1971, is instantly recognisable even without a visible logo.
