The clasp that has become Dinh Van’s signature
This Dinh Van Menottes R10 bracelet in 18-carat yellow gold features the founding motif of the Parisian house, established in 1965 by Jean Dinh Van. In 1976, the jeweller took inspiration from the head of a key to design a key ring that releases two keys with a single movement. This mechanism evolved into a piece of jewellery, and subsequently became the brand’s signature. The R10 version, now known as the ‘small model’ in the collection, features 10 mm-wide handcuffs – striking enough to catch the light on a bare wrist, yet discreet enough to slip in amongst other bracelets. This pre-owned piece corresponds to reference 341102: the Dinh Van Menottes R10 bracelet mounted on a cord.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The two half-cuffs feature sharp edges, a circular openwork design and a mirror polish on all sides. Each bears the engraved Dinh Van signature, and the 750 hallmark appears near the connecting ring. The two halves slot into one another to form the central motif, held in place on either side by a gold ring. The black herringbone-braided cotton cord passes through these rings and is adjusted using two slip knots, with no clasp to fiddle with. When worn flat on the wrist, the cuff reflects light off its smooth surfaces with the slightest movement of the hand.
Why choose this second-hand bracelet
The model still features in the Maison’s catalogue, and a refurbished piece offers the same design and the same gold at a more modest price. Opting for a second-hand piece here focuses on the essentials: the signature of a Parisian jeweller and a motif recognisable at first glance. The 18-carat yellow gold regains its lustre over the years, and the cord can be replaced without affecting the handcuffs. The design can be worn on its own, layered with other pieces or alongside a watch, on the wrist of either a woman or a man.
