An open diamond-set rhombus
In heraldry, the rhombus was used as a shield in women’s coats of arms. This 18-carat white gold diamond-shaped ring, hallmarked 750, features the shape and sits pointed on the finger, with slightly curved sides and an openwork centre. Thirty brilliant-cut diamonds trace its outline, with an estimated total weight of 0.11 carats. The modern brilliant cut features 57 facets, the proportions of which were calculated by Marcel Tolkowsky in 1919 to reflect as much light as possible back to the eye. Unsigned, this pre-owned piece focuses on the design and the evenness of the pavé setting rather than on a central stone.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The pavé setting is slightly raised on a smooth, mirror-polished shank, which leaves the central space clear and luminous. Each diamond is held by prongs shared with its neighbours, a setting that minimises the amount of visible metal and brings the row of stones closer together. The four sides follow a gentle curve, ensuring that the geometry remains clean without appearing austere. The slender, polished band connects to the two side corners of the diamond shape. When worn, the pointed design elongates the line of the finger, and the continuous pavé setting makes the entire circumference sparkle at the slightest movement of the hand.
Why choose this second-hand ring
Setting 30 diamonds on such a delicate setting requires hours of workshop labour, a time factor that significantly affects the price of a new creation. As a second-hand piece, this diamond-shaped ring offers this masterful setting at a fraction of the cost, with a graphic design that can be worn on its own or paired with a slim band. The motif remains understated due to its size yet makes a statement through its design – a balance that lends itself perfectly to everyday wear.
