The history of this Corum Bubble
Corum launched the Bubble model in the early 2000s under the leadership of Severin Wunderman. It was inspired by an experimental diving watch from the 1960s fitted with a thick sapphire crystal to withstand ocean pressures. By applying this engineering to a contemporary timepiece, he created a design centred on a transparent dome that distorts the dial’s markings. This limited-edition Qatar Legacy 2017, bearing the reference number 08.0009, is produced in a run of 50 pieces. The model in question bears the number 19. It pays a chromatic tribute to the State of Qatar. The burgundy red mother-of-pearl dial and the white strap echo the colours of the national flag. This approach marks a break with the classic aesthetic and brings the collection into line with the brand’s standards.
Case, movement and strap of this Bubble
The polished and brushed stainless steel case has a diameter of 47 mm. Its silhouette is defined by an 8 mm-thick domed sapphire crystal that protects a natural mother-of-pearl dial tinted in burgundy red. Due to the optical effect of the crystal, the material’s reflections vary with the ambient light. The hours are marked by large, round applied hour-markers and hands with full curves. The watch is powered by the Swiss automatic calibre CO 082, operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offering a power reserve of 42 hours. The screw-down case back, fitted with a sapphire crystal, allows the openworked oscillating weight and the finish of the movement to be viewed. The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres. The timepiece is mounted on a white strap fastened with a pin buckle.
Why choose this Corum watch
This version stands out as it is limited to 50 pieces. The combination of its case and mother-of-pearl dial creates a subtle contrast on the wrist. The inclusion of two additional straps offers a variety of ways to wear the watch. On the second-hand market, numbered series featuring textured dials are sought after by enthusiasts of unconventional watch designs. It represents an opportunity to acquire a limited-edition timepiece with a strong visual identity.
Contents and condition
The watch is supplied without a box or papers, with two additional straps: one in pearl-grey shagreen leather and the other in matt rubber. The watch is in very good condition, with slight signs of wear on the polished steel surfaces. The domed sapphire crystal is intact and the engraving on the caseback confirms its place in the limited edition. Polishing is available on request.
