The Bvlgari serpent in clean lines
This 18-carat rose gold Bvlgari Serpenti Viper necklace revisits a motif that the Roman House has been working on since 1948, the year the first Serpenti wristwatches with Tubogas bands were launched. The Viper line offers a graphic interpretation of this motif, characterised by clean lines and smooth surfaces, without any gemstones or enamel. Here, it is all about the metal. The faceted, pointed head meets the tail at the centre of the neckline, forming a V-shape that elongates the neck. The 750 rose gold gives the polished scales a warm, skin-like hue, and the piece can be worn on its own or with other chains. This pre-owned piece retains the precise design of the original creation.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The snake’s body is composed of trapezoidal scales interlocked with one another and articulated along its entire length. Each scale pivots on the one beneath it, so that the necklace follows the curve of the neck without any stiffness and lies flat as soon as it is removed. The visible side is entirely polished, whilst the reverse of each scale is openwork, which lightens the structure without detracting from its perceived volume. The scales gradually taper towards the tail, which ends in a pointed tip after several segments of decreasing length. The head, constructed from facets, catches the light in successive layers. Positioned at the nape of the neck, the clasp echoes the shape of the scales and blends seamlessly into the line of the necklace.
Why this second-hand necklace
A fully articulated gold necklace requires a lengthy assembly process, scale by scale, which is fully reflected in the retail price. Purchased second-hand, this Bvlgari Serpenti Viper necklace features the same design, the same signature and the same material: a generous amount of 18-carat rose gold for a necklace of this size. Its stone-free design means it can be worn every day, whether with the open collar of a shirt or an evening gown.
