Created in 1977 from the pen of designer Gérald Genta, the Bvlgari Bvlgari was originally intended as an exclusive gift reserved for the Roman House’s 100 most valued clients. Its design draws on powerful symbols from antiquity. The cylindrical case is inspired by the cross-section of Roman temple columns. The double engraving on the bezel echoes the design of ancient imperial coins, where the emperor’s name encircled his portrait. This is one of the first times in the history of contemporary watchmaking that a brand has used its name as a central architectural feature on the case.
