The geometry of the Colosseum on a Bvlgari B.zero1 ring
Launched in 1999, on the eve of the new millennium, the Bvlgari B.zero1 ring translates the tiers of Rome’s Colosseum into jewellery. This four-row version in 18-carat white gold offers the most architectural interpretation, with a central spiral held between two rings engraved with the double BVLGARI BVLGARI logo. To create it, the Roman jewellery house employed its Tubogas technique, winding it around a hollow, cylindrical core, which gives the metal its stepped relief. With no gemstones at all, the piece owes its appeal entirely to its silhouette and the quality of its gold. Offered here as a pre-owned piece, it retains its original design, which has remained almost unchanged since its launch.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The body of the ring consists of gold bands coiled and fitted together seamlessly, then topped and bottomed by two flat rings. Their edges are engraved with ‘BVLGARI BVLGARI’ in capital letters, each name separated by a full stop. The four rows of the spiral are mirror-polished on the outside, whilst the inside features a satin finish that highlights the hollow of each coil. Measuring 13 mm wide, the band covers a large portion of the knuckle and creates a distinct presence on the hand. When worn, light glides from row to row, creating a succession of parallel reflections, which the mirror polish makes very clear.
Why choose this pre-owned ring
The white gold B.zero1 is still featured in the Bvlgari catalogue, in this same four-row design. Choosing a pre-owned Bvlgari ring means accessing the same craftsmanship in the gold and the same seamless spiral design, on a piece that has already been inspected by a craftsman. As the design has hardly changed since 1999, it retains the look of a contemporary piece. Its width and the absence of gemstones make it a ring that stands on its own, worn alone on the index or middle finger.
