The story behind this Breitling Super Avenger
Breitling has built its reputation in the field of aviation by designing technical instruments for professionals. The Avenger collection meets strict operational requirements. Its design stems from a practical necessity: to allow the watch to be operated whilst wearing thick leather flight gloves. This requirement gave rise to the lugs encircling the rotating bezel and a deeply grooved crown to ensure optimal grip. With the EB0148 model housed in an imposing 46 mm case, the manufacture presents a titanium chronograph that combines this military heritage with advanced contemporary mechanics. This timepiece illustrates the transition from a utilitarian on-board instrument to high-precision watchmaking.
Case, movement and strap of this Super Avenger
The 46 mm diameter case is machined from titanium with a fully brushed finish. This finish provides a matt appearance and minimises light reflection. The central crown is flanked by thick metal guards and two rectangular pushers. The bezel features wide notches and incorporates four screw-fixed lugs at the quarter-hour positions. The black dial features three black sub-dials with an azure pattern. The applied hour markers and sword-shaped hands are filled with white luminescent material. The slender central chronograph hand is distinguished by its red diamond-shaped tip. A square date window at 6 o’clock displays the date. Protected by a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, the watch is water-resistant to 300 metres. The screw-down case back, fitted with a sapphire crystal, reveals the Breitling Calibre 01. This self-winding in-house movement incorporates a column-wheel system and a vertical clutch. Comprising 346 components, including 45 jewels, it operates at a frequency of 4 Hz and guarantees a power reserve of 70 hours. The brushed titanium bracelet fastens with a secure folding clasp.
