The story behind this Breitling Galactic 36
The Galactic collection was designed to offer the brand’s instrumental aesthetic in a luxurious format. It moves away from the chronograph function that has historically dominated the brand’s production to focus on legibility and comfort. The most striking visual feature of this timepiece, reference C3733012/A724, is its rotating bezel. This features four gold lugs positioned at the quarter-hour marks. These protrusions were originally invented in 1984 for the Chronomat model with a purely utilitarian function. They protected the sapphire crystal from frontal impacts and allowed pilots to operate the rotating bezel whilst wearing thick gloves. On this model, this military heritage is softened by the use of precious metals and organic materials.
Case, movement and strap of this Galactic 36
The round case measures 36 mm in diameter and features a combination of polished stainless steel and an 18-carat yellow gold bezel. The domed sapphire crystal features an anti-reflective coating to ensure a clear view of the dial. The dial is crafted from genuine white mother-of-pearl with a centre subtly guilloché with vertical stripes. The dial is accented by gold hour markers and sword-shaped hands coated with luminescent material. A small seconds sub-dial is positioned at 6 o’clock, whilst the date is displayed in a window at 3 o’clock. The movement is powered by the Breitling Calibre 37, certified as a chronometer by the COSC. This mechanism beats at 4 hertz with its 27 jewels and delivers a power reserve of 42 hours. The Pilot-style metal bracelet features five rows of links alternating between steel and gold, extending all the way to the folding clasp. The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres.

The structural integrity is intact and a light polish can be carried out on request to restore its uniform mirror-like finish.
