The history of this Breitling AVI Ref. 765 1953 Re-Edition dates back to the early days of military and commercial aviation. Launched in 1953 under the name Co-Pilot, this timepiece met the requirements of professional aviators who needed clearly legible on-board instruments. The original model was distinguished by a high-contrast dial and an engraved rotating bezel. Reference AB0920131B1X1 reproduces this design whilst incorporating the manufacture’s contemporary standards. A technical feature highlights its aeronautical heritage: the minute sub-dial at 3 o’clock features luminescent markers at 3-minute intervals. This layout enabled pilots to time their pre-flight checklists, which lasted exactly 3 minutes in accordance with the procedures of the time. This reissue, limited to 1,953 pieces, reflects the functional approach of the 1950s instrument watches.

The polished stainless steel case measures 41 mm in diameter and is 13 mm thick. Its profile is accentuated by a deeply domed Hesalite crystal protecting a matt black dial. The dial features painted Arabic numerals and syringe-style hands coated with a tinted luminescent material that mimics the patina of radium. The rotating beaded bezel ensures quick and easy reading. Inside, the Breitling-manufactured Calibre B09 is at work. This hand-wound mechanical movement offers a power reserve of 70 hours. It drives the quarter-second chronograph functions. The solid steel case back guarantees water resistance to 30 metres and bears the edition’s commemorative engravings. The black calfskin strap fastens with a stainless steel pin buckle.

The case can be polished on request to restore it to its original appearance.
