The deep fire of a spessartite garnet
This 18-carat yellow gold spessartite garnet ring features a central oval stone weighing approximately 2.80 carats, with a deep orange-red colour. Spessartite garnet takes its name from the Spessart mountain range in Bavaria, where it was first described. Its colour comes from the manganese it contains, and its high refractive index gives it a vivid sparkle from every facet. Offered as a pre-owned piece, this trilogy ring frames the centre stone with two trillion-cut diamonds, bringing the total weight of the stones to approximately 4 carats. The colour takes centre stage, whilst the diamonds highlight it without ever stealing the limelight.
Architecture and jewellery craftsmanship
The centre stone rests in an openwork setting with doubled wires, held in place by four rounded-head prongs that leave ample space around the table. On either side, two trillion-cut diamonds totalling approximately 1.20 carats extend the oval’s line, each held by a prong at its outer tip. Their sharp angles echo the curve of the garnet and elongate the ring’s head on the finger. The ring shank, smooth and polished, maintains a consistent width and offers a generous setting that anchors the stone without weighing it down. When worn, the yellow of the gold warms the orange-red of the garnet, whilst the trillions reflect a crisp, white light.
Why choose this second-hand ring
Having two matched trillion-cut diamonds cut to size and setting a coloured gemstone of this size now represents a substantial amount of workshop work. This spessartite garnet ring features approximately 4 carats of stones set in a generously proportioned 18-carat yellow gold setting, without the cost of a new creation from a jeweller. Spessartite garnet also remains a less well-known gemstone than ruby or sapphire, making it ideal for those seeking a garnet and diamond ring that stands out from the usual choices.
